CCK09 Power and Authority * Reflections

I’m reflecting upon Stephen’s comment during the Elluminate discussion this week about Vygotsky. In particular, the notion that the course facilitators/educators are not necessarily attempting to lead the learner/student towards a particular concept or set of ideas as such. At least, that was my interpretation. So the question is whether this Connectivist approach to learning can involve less socially constructed means of learning than conversation? Could it be more individualistic, more personal at times? As I read more CCK09 participant blogs, I sometimes have the uncomfortable feeling that I may be intersecting within a line of thought wherein I don’t know the background or perhaps the context of what is written – particularly if I am reading posts and commentary between CCK08 and CCK09 participants. These participants may be having a conversation that started prior to my own introducation to the Connectivism and Connective Knowledge 2009 course. Similtaneously, I may simply be building upon my own prior learning to a greater extent than truly engaging within a historical conversation.
