Churchland – Eliminative Materialism and the Propositioanl Attitudes

Churchland (1981, p. 67) states that eliminative materialism is the thesis that our common-sense conception of psychological phenomena constitutes a radically false theory. In addition, Churchland (1981) considers notions developed within the field of completed neuroscience. In particular, his thesis is summarized as follows: ‘The propositional attitudes of folk psychology do not constitute an unbreachable barrier to the advancing of neuroscience. On the contrary, the principled displacment of folk psychology is not only richly possible, it represents one of the most intriguing theoretical displacments we can currently imagine’.
